Overview

Forgotten Highlands is a 3-day, remote hiking experience across the wild southern plateau of Mount Olympus. This is the mountain’s most isolated side, where few hikers venture, and where the feeling of distance from the modern world is absolute. This program offers variety of landscapes and ascent on 10 peaks over 2,400m. Suited to experienced hikers and people with good physical condition.

Full Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Litochoro.

Meet up with your guide/leader and the group at 12adventures Base near the town square.Quick check up and transfer to Ano Pigadi Refuge. A variety of vegetation zone among great view to the Aegean Sea are the highlights until reaching Ano Pigadi hut at 1,400m.

  • 19:00 Arrival at Ano Pigadi hut.
  • 20:00 Briefing after rest and dinner

Day 2

A full day in the heart of the highlands.

Move from peak to peak, narrow ridges and rocky terrain.Route finding is the element of the day rather than marked trails. Reach the highest emergency refuge in the Balkans (2,816 m) and spend the night overlooking the Thessalian plain.

  • 7:00 Wake up & prepare for ascent
  • 8:00 Start hiking to peaks and the Plateau of Barra
  • 15:00 Arrival at Refuge
  • 17:00 Cook & Eat

Day 3

Ascend to Skala and Skolio Peak(2,911 m), the second-highest summit in Greece.

From the high alpines views, enter the E4 trail and descent toward Spilios Agapitos Refuge. Continue downhill through dark pine forest to Prionia and then to Agios Dionisios Old Monastery founded in 1,542, before transport back to Litochoro.

Private Insurance

For your safety and peace of mind, private travel insurance is ,required for all participants. In Greece, immediate rescue services — such as helicopter evacuation or rapid response teams — may not always be available in remote mountain areas like Mount Olympus. Having your own insurance ensures quick and reliable assistance in case of emergency, allowing you to enjoy your adventure with confidence.
